Karen specializes in still-life, floral, bird and other animal subjects in oils. She is a member of Oil Painters Of America, Society of Decorative Painters, West Virginia Art & Craft Guild, American Women Artists and the Parkersburg Art Center.

Stop by and see our last gallery exhibit of the year – Kathy Boland’s People and Parlors: An Afternoon at the Greenbrier. Kathy’s latest show will feature all new works depicting her favorite rooms and scenes of the Greenbrier Resort. An opening reception will take place during ArtWalk on December 20th from 5:00-8:00pm with an artist talk at 6:00pm. The exhibit will be on display through January 2013.

During the October ArtWalk, Art Emporium will be featuring new works by Elaine McMillion and Betty Rivard. “Beautiful McDowell County” highlights positive views of the county and its people.   Elaine McMillion is the director of The Hollow Project (www.hollowthefilm.com), which uses interactive media to support county residents in sharing their lives, their visions, and their plans for the future.  Betty Rivard is a fine art landscape photographer whose new book, New Deal Photographs of West Virginia, 1934-1943 (www.wvupress.com), includes a chapter with historic photographs that were taken in the county by Marion Post Wolcott in September 1938. ”Beautiful McDowell County” will run October 15-November 17.

Art Emporium presents “My Illustrated Life” – Watercolor Reflections by Sharon Harms. Growing up in Chicago, Sharon was always surrounded by great art. Several of her relatives were artists and it always seemed like a natural thing for her. Sharon studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from the time she was eight years old until college age when she enrolled at the American Academy of Art to focus on communication art, graphic design and illustration. Thirty years ago she relocated to West Virginia to work as an illustrator for a large paper product manufacturer. She fell in love with the state and all of its natural beauty. Sharon’s work reflects her love of nature and gardening and her personal experiences. Painting is as much a therapy as a joy in my life. “My Illustrated Life,” is a series of recently completed watercolors that reflect the beauty and magic in Sharon’s life. Her works will be on display September 17- October 13.
