New Saturday Art Classes

Barrie Kaufman and Nancy Johnston will be holding Saturday art classes for students and adults here at the Art Emporium. They will be offering different types of classes like pastels, watercolor, drawing, and holiday crafts. All materials are included in each class cost of $50.00. Class size is limited, so reserve your spot now by contacting Barrie at 343-8013 (home), 881-3702 (cell), or kaufmanchaswest@aol.com. The schedule for these classes is as follows:

Jan 31st: Pastels
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
learn to use pastels to create landscapes, shading, and animal forms

Feb. 14th: Valentines
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
create handmade Valentines out of lace, rhinestones, ribbon, & more

March 28th: Watercolor
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
learn watercolor techniques like wet on wet, shading, and color composition

April 4th: Drawing
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
explore colored pencils, graphite, and charcoal to create finished drawings

May 9th: Basic Cartooning
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
learn the basics of cartooning to create your own cartoon strip

June 6th: Printmaking
9:00am-12:00pm – 1st grade-4th
1:00pm-4:00pm – 5th grade-Adult
create small, color, and black & white prints from many textured materials

Youth Art Exhibit

Stop by this month to see our wonderful Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Art Exhibit! The exhibit features 40 colorful and creative masterpieces from children and youth from The East End Family Resource Center. Some of the children were influenced by the works of Georgia O’Keefe, Van Gogh, and Paul Klee, while others chose to depict Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Obama family during influential moments in history.

New Year, New Products!

It’s a new year, and we are getting in great new merchandise here at the Art Emporium. We just got in fantastic gourd birdhouses by Deep Gourd Supply and lovely woven baskets by Appalachian Baskets.  We also have new art supplies and creative children’s toys by Melissa & Doug.

Art Emporium would also like to welcome our newest artist, Tandi Stephens. Tandi makes one-of-a-kind assemblages from everyday objects like costume jewelry, ice skates, paper, antique frames, lightbulbs and anything else she can get her hands on.
